In 2007, Betsy Kirschbaum’s daughter, Molly, started classes at Muhlenberg College. Coming from Massachusetts, the family found it difficult to travel between home and school.
Mike Bruckner, Vice President of Public Relations at Muhlenberg College, described the troubles of transportation to far away areas. Flights to Boston are not cost-effective and involved at least one transfer, and buses made frequent out-of-the-way stops which caused trips to take much longer than necessary.
Because other parents were having similar problems, Kirschbaum created My Bus Home, a charter bus company for students of colleges around the Lehigh Valley area. This business services Massachusetts, New York, Delaware, and Pennsylvania according to the website.
Since starting My Bus Home, Kirschbaum has added nine colleges to her list of partners, including Muhlenberg, Lafayette, Lehigh, as well as schools in Rhode Island, New York, and Delaware.
Rumors have circulated that Kirschbaum is in the process of developing a partnership with Cedar Crest.
Senior Maria Vincent says, “As a student without a car, it’s difficult to always coordinate a ride when I want to go home, and finding bussing home has proven equally challenging.”
